Obituary of Linda deBoer

deBOER, Linda Louise - 60, Spryfield, wife of Eddy deBoer, passed away following a battle with cancer in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, Thursday, December 11, 2008. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late John Williamson and Marion (Lawrence) Woodgate. Linda was a woman who loved her family dearly. She was a tremendous mother to her children and a second mother to her siblings, and was the bond that held her family together throughout the years. Before going to work at the Spryfield Bowlarama in 1989, Linda had worked at Sears in the packing room for 12 years. In 1991, Linda became the manager of Spryfield Bowlarama, her second home, and one of her greatest passions. Over the many years, she has built many friendships within her community and her employees. Always giving, Linda is well known for organizing events, such as the Annual March Break Pizza Bowl. She was an avid volunteer with the Spryfield Business Golf Challenge and many bowling tournaments. Among many other functions, Linda was instrumental in hosting fundraisers for the Firefighter's Burn Unit and the Kidney Foundation. With pride, Linda also co-coordinated and dedicated herself to many bowling tournaments and trips to the United States with the Youth Bowling Program, as well as many Senior Bowling Programs. Linda was a devoted friend to many and will be sadly missed by her family, friends, colleagues, fellow bowlers, and community. She was always proud to call Spryfield home, having lived here since the age of 12. She will be fondly remembered by her husband of 43 years, Eddy; her son, Edward (Caralynn) deBoer, Spryfield, and her daughter, Tanya deBoer, Spryfield, and will be remembered as "Nanny" to her grandchildren, Brandon, Robert and Devin. She is also survived by her sisters, Chris Williamson, Jocelyn (Arnie) Arnott, Debbie (Steve) Doucette, Wanda Woodgate, Cindy (Paul) Ross, and Shannon (Ed) Wieterman, brothers, Russell Williamson (Judy), John Woodgate (Arlene), and Robert Woodgate (Shelley); 28 nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews, and many, many friends. She was predeceased by her mother, Marion; her fathers, John Williamson and Bob Woodgate; sister, Alana, and brother, George. Cremation has taken place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Rd, Halifax (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A celebration of Linda's life will be held on Monday, December 15, at 1 pm. in the funeral home chapel with Father Gary Thorne as clergy. The family would appreciate remembrances in memory of Linda to the Nova Scotia Firefighter's Burn Treatment Society, PO Box 481, Dartmouth, NS B3Y 3Y8 (902.835.0166).
