Obituary of Mary Ellen Cowie

COWIE, Mary Ellen, Halifax, born March 21, 1912, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on December 22, 2008, at the age of 96. She was the daughter of the late Edmund and Ella (Whalen) Mountain. Mary survived the Halifax explosion thanks to a little mouse. She enjoyed her budgies, knitting, bingo, music, puzzles and loved her sweets and trips. She is survived by sons, Jim (Rowena) MacDonald, Halifax; Alex (Dolly), Sambro Head; Eddy (Sandra), Timberlea and Frank (Dianne), Lower Sackville; daughter-in-law Patsy. She will be sadly missed by her 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grand children, many nieces and nephews, friends at the Captain Spry Manor and special friends Pat James and Paul Lynch. She was predeceased by son Alfred Cowie and sister Ella Cook. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff of 8.3, QEII and a special thanks to Dr. Neuman for her care given to Mary. Arrangements are under the direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. 149 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield (477.5601) where visitation will be held on Friday, December 26 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 27 at 11 AM from the funeral home chapel. Interment to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Family flowers only.
