Obituary of Nora Baker

BAKER, Nora - 92, Halifax, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2009, with loving family by her side in Northwood Care Inc., Halifax. Born in Chezzetcook, she was a daughter of the late Alexis and Alice LaPierre. In 1964, Nora was employed with Red Cross Homecare for several years. She was devoted to her husband and children throughout her life. After her family left home she volunteered with seniors groups. She was a resident of Northwood Centre for four years, where she enjoyed sewing and playing cards with family and friends. She will be lovingly remembered as a mother, sister, and grandmother. Nora is survived by her sons, Lincoln (Reta), Alan (Alice), Edward, Lawrence (Margaret), Gregory (Johanna); daughters, Sharon (Barb), Gloria, Sylvia (Bert), Jeannette (Robert), Rose; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Hazel LaPierre, Eileen Buckler, Marion LaPierre, Marjorie Hopkins. She was predeceased by her husband, Lincoln Spurgeon Baker; grandson, David Pippy; sisters, Edna Mailman, Stella Murphy, Gladys Murphy, Helena Edwards, and Blanche Clark; brothers, Francis and Thomas LaPierre. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Northwood Centre 8C for their kindness and loving care given to Nora during her time with them. Resting at J.A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Rd., Halifax (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 4-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 7, at 10 a.m. from St. Anslem's Roman Catholic Church, Chezzetcook, with Father Greg Agyeman as celebrant. Interment will take place in the adjoining church cemetery. Donations in memory of Nora may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of one's choice.
