Obituary of Emery Corkum

Corkum, Emery Eugene: 80, Halifax, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on February 1, 2009, from a long standing lung disease. Born in Pleasantville, on March 27, 1928, he was predeceased by his parents Sherman and Viola (Cooke) Corkum and his only brother Fred. He is survived by wife of 56 years, Ina (MacGregor), sons, Byron and Barry (Grace), daughter Catherine Stewart (Charles), two grandsons, and many nieces and nephews. Emery was a devoted husband and loving father. His unconditional acceptance of others and sense of humor endeared him to all acquaintances. He was a faithful member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church. For many years he worked as an auto body painter. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, golf, bowling, and in recent years, reading and crosswords puzzles. Cremation has taken place under the direction of J Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS (477.5601), where visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 from 6:30-9 pm. A memorial service with reception to follow will be held at Calvary Baptist Church on Thursday, February 5 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Carl Price and Rev. John Beers officiating. Interment in Sunrise Park Cemetery (Hatchet Lake) will take place at a later date. Donations in Emery’s memory may be made to Calvary Baptist Church or Bayside Camp.
