Obituary of Anita Harrigan

HARRIGAN (Slight), Anita Rejean – 90, passed away peacefully in Northwood Manor, Halifax. Born July 23, 1918 in Estcourt, Quebec, she was the daughter of the late Noel Henry and Marie Laure (Dion) Slight. Anita worked as a translator for Simpson’s in Halifax before marrying and settling in Herring Cove, where she worked with her husband, Arthur, for many years at Harrigan Brother’s General Store. She led a very active life which included volunteering with St. James Anglican Church in Herring Cove. She enjoyed fishing, baking, making wine and knitting. She loved animals. She was always up for a game of cards, especially bridge. She was a devoted mother. She is survived by her daughters, Chrystal (Glen) Gray, Sambro; Cindy, Halifax; son, Leonard (Judy Mansfield), Halifax; grandchildren, Lisa (Allan) Forsey, Jason Harrigan, Shawna Gray, Ryan Gray(Dawn Shepherd); great-grandchild Julia Forsey. She was predeceased by her son Dale. She was the last surviving member of the Slight family and was predeceased by brothers, Wilbrod, Paul-Emil, William, Jean-Roger and sisters, Giselle, Annette, Blanche, Lauretta (her twin), Pauline and Lauretta who both died in infancy. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Northwood, especially to the nurses and care workers of the 10th floor Manor. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. 149 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield (477-5601). By request there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 25, 2009 at 11 am in St.James Cemetery, followed by reception in the church hall. Donations in Anita’s memory may be made to the Canadian Wildlife Fund or to a charity of one’s choice.
