Obituary of Gordon Ivey
Ivey, Gordon Wilmer - 89, Halifax. On April 28, 2009, Gordon passed away peacefully at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, NS. Born in North Sydney, NS, he was a son of the late Harry and Sadie Ivey. Gordon was a WWII Veteran and an active member of the Masonic Lodge, Royal Canadian Legion, and Emmanuel Anglican Church. Gordon was a dedicated employee of Halifax Housing Authority for 26 years and prior to that, a member of the Royal Canadian Navy for 20 years. He will always be remembered as a dedicated husband, father, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Emily (Keeping), his children, Karen, Wayne (Lottie), Shirley (Ken), Brenda (Vern), Harry (Elizabeth), and Holly (Stuart), nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a sister, Faye Haycox. He was predeceased by his sister Shirley Egan. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff on the 9th floor of the Abbey Lane division of the QEII Health Sciences Centre who helped care for Gordon, as well as Dr. H. Matheson. Arrangements are under the care of J.A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road Halifax, NS, (477.5601), where visitation will be held on Thursday from 7-9 PM and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 11:00 AM from Emmanuel Anglican Church. Cremation will follow the service and burial will be at a later date. The family would appreciate remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
