Obituary of Cyril Watts

WATTS, Cyril Gordon - 78, Halifax, passed away with family at his side on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 in the VG Site, QEII. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Robert James and Edna Jean (Collins) Watts. Cyril received a long-service award, having worked as a welder in the Maintenance Department of the VG hospital for many years. He was a devoted husband to Ruth for 57 years. He loved country music and traveled to Nashville and got to see his favourite artist, Hank Snow. Cyril played the steel guitar and the spoons. He will be lovingly remembered and never forgotten by his wife Ruth (Belong); son, Robert; daughters, Susan, Jane, and Dorothy, all of Halifax; many grand children and great-grand children; sisters, Doris, Joan (Bobby) Patterson; brothers, Billy (Ethel), Harold (Eileen), Lloyd (Susan); many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grand daughter Sarah Katherine, sisters, Florence Greenough, Edna McAndrew, Ruth Stevenson; brothers, Robert and Tommy Watts. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Palliative Care staff of the VG Site, QEII, for their compassionate care and support. Cremation has taken place under the direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, (477-5601) where private family visitation will be held before the service. A service of remembrance will be held on Friday, August 14 at 1pm from the funeral home chapel. Interment to follow in St. John’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Cyril’s memory to the IWK Children’s Hospital.
