Obituary of Madeline Gray

GRAY, Madeline Pearl — 88, of Halifax, passed away on August 16, 2009, in the VG Site, QEII, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Leslis Wellsworth and Ella Mae (Lawrence) Marriett of Halifax. She is survived by her sister, Helen Kirby; sister-in-law, Lorna Marriott; daughter, Doris Gray (Gerald Peters) of Dartmouth; son, Lawrence (Sandy Squires) of Halifax; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Gray, of Pennant. She will be sadly missed by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Ivan; son, Ivan Thomas; brother, Leslis Marriott; and sisters, Amelia (Joseph) Mansfield, Muriel (Carroll) Marryatt, and Vivian Marriett. Madeline enjoyed cooking and baking and spent most of her life as a homemaker while taking time out to be a nanny to the Smith children. She was the community hair dresser and seamstress for many years. She was known for being kind and charitable by the people in her community. A celebration of her life will be held in J. Albert Walker Funeral Home Chapel, 149 Herring Cove Rd. Halifax, N.S. on Tuesday, August 18th at 1 p.m. Interment will take place in Mount Calvery Cemetery, Ketch Harbour, following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
