Obituary of Fred Sampson
SAMPSON, Fred 89, Halifax, passed away peacefully in QEII Health Sciences Centre, on Sunday, October 25, 2009. Born April 10, 1920, in Lower L'Ardoise, Cape Breton, he was a son of the late Henry "Bien" Sampson and Ada (Martell) Sampson. He is survived by the love of his life, Eileen, who he married in England on December 29, 1945; his sons, Harold, Leslie and Richard; daughters, Elizabeth, Nancy, Joyce and Helene. He is loved by his 22 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Charlie; sister, Eva; many nieces and nephews. "Freddie Bien" was predeceased by brothers, Martin, John, George and Alonzo; sisters, Maggie, Mary Catherine, Beatrice and Delrosa; granddaughter, Hayley. Pte. Sampson, Cape Brenton Highlanders, served his country with pride during the Second World War. He served for six years in England, Italy, Holland and Germany. He always enjoyed a good game of cards with friends and family and had a keen eye for horses at the track. He will be missed by many. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Rd., Spryfield (477-5601) where visitation will be held today from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday, October 27, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, October 28, at 10 a.m. from St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church with a reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred's memory can be made to a charity of one's choice.
