Obituary of Leo Longaphy

Longaphy, Leo Edmond, 72 of Halifax, passed away on October 12, 2009 at the Arborstone Enhanced Care Residence in Nova Scotia. Born in Richmond County, he was the son of the late Edward and Melinda (Sampson), and step-father Finley F. Evong Sr. Leo was a skilled carpenter who lived life to the fullest; his musical talents made him the life of many kitchen parties. His competitive nature in baseball, darts and pool won him many trophies and more importantly friends. He is survived by son Liam (Rebecca) Sutherland - mother Mary Sutherland; daughters: Wendy (Longaphy) McGraw, Kim (Dwayne) Lane, Annette (Leonard) Caines - mother Jean Pottie; grandchildren: Shannon, Trevor, Jonathon, Caleb, Seth, Michaela, Mitchell and Jesse; great-grandchildren: Alisha, Xavier; and many niece’s and nephew’s, brother Francis (Cecile) Longaphy; half-brothers: Wayne (Mary) Evong, Gerard Evong, Bernard (Jean) Evong, Allan (Sybil) Evong, Finley (Alice) Evong; brother-in-law Graham Conrad; half-sisters: Dawn (Bill) MacDougall, Gloria (Karsten) Roren, Barbara-Ann Granberg, Marlene (Bernard) Shea. Leo was predeceased by his wives: Shirley (Ferguson) Longaphy and Valerie (Baker) Longaphy, half-sister Diane Conrad, and brother-in-law Hans Granberg. Cremation has taken place under the care of JA Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Rd., Halifax, N.S. (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 7-9 pm. The memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 15th, 2009 at 1 pm at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Patricia Malin as clergy, with a reception to follow in the funeral home.
