Obituary of Clifford Welburn

WELBURN, Clifford Dwayne, 45, of Timberlea passed away November 16 2009, with his family at his bedside in the ICU of the QEII Hospital, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Halifax he was the son of Marina Welburn (Yarn) of East Dalhousie, and his father, the late George A. Welburn. He is survived by his soul-mate and wife Darlene (Brown) and precious daughter Amanda, sister Angela of Glen Haven (Dan Atton), brother George of Bedford (Lana Fougere), Grandmother Rebecca Yarn, niece Ali, nephews Ryan & Darcy Welburn, Shawn and Ryan Nehiley, Mother-in-law Joann Brown, Sister-in-Law Sheila Brown (Bobby Nehiley), Aunt Effie Allison (Art), Uncle Cliff Yarn (Patsy), Uncle Freddie Welburn (Phyllis) and several cousins. Clifford was predeased by Grandfathers: George Yarn and Thomas Welburn, Uncles: Richard and Thomas Welburn, and Father-in-law Don Brown. Cliff enjoyed spending time most and foremost with his family, he always looked forward to a good game of golf with his daughter Amanda, attending his nephew’s hockey games, and going to Amanda and Ali’s horse show competitions. In his years he played darts with the Men’s Halifax City League, Friday night cards at the Lakeside Legion, enjoyed time at the family cottage playing auction, lawn darts, horseshoes, games and boating. Cliff was an extremely devoted family man, he always put them first no matter what the situation was, it was family first. Cliff had so many friends there wasn’t a place he could visit that he didn’t know someone, a very well liked man with hundreds of friends. Cliff started out working for Midland, and moved on to Leon’s for 19 years first as a driver and moved on to salesman, in which he won employee of the month more than once! He spent his final years working for DHL as owner/operator truck driver. Specials thanks goes out to the staff of DHL, Kokomo’s and his sister Angela for holding a very memorable benefit in Cliff’s honour on Oct 17th. Heartfelt thanks go out to the nurses, doctors and staff of the VG and QEII Hospitals, and special thanks to porter and friend Joey Shadbolt. Visitation will take place Friday, November 20th 6-8pm and the service will take place Saturday, November 21st 11AM, both at J Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, reception to follow.
