Joseph “Aaron” Slaunwhite
87. Terence Bay, NS, passed away on November 15, 2009 at the Halifax Infirmary. Born in Terence Bay, he was a son of the late Edward Dan Slaunwhite and Ellen (Howard) Slaunwhite. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family of 10 siblings. Throughout his working years, he was a fisherman, freight handler, and handyman. His loving heart and strong hands fixed many cuts and bruises at home. He always had a smile and a joke to share. Aaron made sure to visit his family and friends as often as he could. He was known to have a heavy foot, but a gentle heart. He would give you the shirt off of his back. He will be deeply missed, but remembered always by many extended family members and close friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ella-May Slaunwhite. He was the father of 9 children, surviving are, sons, William Arnold, Purcell’s Cove, Joseph (Joanna), Shad Bay, and James (Shelly), Shad Bay, daughters, Doreen (Wayne), Terence Bay, Emily, Terence Bay, Alvina (Barry), Terence Bay, Holly (Frank), Terence Bay, as well as 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and two children, Marion Colleen and William Cecil, in infancy.
Cremation has taken place under the care of JA Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS (477.5601). No visitation by family request. Memorial service to take place at St. Joseph’s Church, Shad Bay on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 10 AM, followed by a reception. Burial will take place in Star of the Sea Cemetery.
