Obituary of Joan Brown

BROWN (Robertson), Joan Mary — (November 13, 1932 - December 6, 2009). It is with great sadness and heartache that our family announces the passing of Joan on December 6, 2009. She was predeceased last year by her loving husband, James Edward Brown. Joan was an amazing mom to her three daughters and their husbands, Shawn Brown and Jeff Earle, Sackville, N.B.; Tanya Brown and Bryan Tanney, Perth, Australia; Michele and Paul Carrothers, Tsawwassen, B.C. She was the adored grandmother of Oliver and Seth Earle, Austen and Emerson Tanney and Hannah and Eve Carrothers. Joan will be sadly missed by her sisters and their husbands, Liz and Fred Tappen, Judy and Gerry Doherty; sister-in-law, Jean Meagher, and brother-in-law Eric Chittick. She was predeceased by her loving sister and kindred spirit, Dorothy Chittick. Joan also cherished happy times spent with cousin Marjorie and her many relatives and friends in England. She always treasured the comfort and support of dear friend, Liz Wilcox. Joan was extraordinarily creative, expressing herself as a talented artist, a beautiful pianist and a stellar cook. She was involved in many art groups and she volunteered in Saint Augustine's Church Guild over the years, taking immense joy in the friendships she found within. Her firm values, generosity and grace will be with us all forever and we will treasure the memories of our campfire gatherings, singsongs around the piano and the one and only "Joannie dance" in the kitchen. In keeping with Joan's wishes, cremation has taken place under the care of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Rd., Halifax NS (477-5601) and a private family service has taken place with interment in the Columbarium of Saint Augustine's Anglican Church, Jollimore. Our family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the community and to Father John Scott for all the support and and great sandwiches over the past few weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joan to Saint Augustine's Anglican Church, Jollimore would be appreciated. Words of comfort may be sent to the family visiting: www.walkerfh.com
