Obituary of Alfred Drake
DRAKE, Alfred Burns 89, Halifax, passed away January 10, 2010, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Hollis and Gertrude (Purcell) Drake. He had been a member of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, a member of the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. After the war he became a commercial fisherman and was active for 30 years as a Navigational Officer with the Royal Canadian Navy Auxiliary Vessels. After retirement he worked as a commissionaire at St. Mary's Basilica. Alfred is survived by loving wife, Frances Elizabeth (MacPhee); son, Jeffery, Halifax; daughters, Joanne Smith, Shubenacadie; Lorna Russell, Porter's Lake; half-sister, Elizabeth Jacobson, Norval, Ont.; grandsons, Travis and Brian Russell; and great-granddaughter, Jessica Christopher. He was predeceased by sons, Hollis Michael, Alfred Garfield; daughter, Debra-Ann; half- brother, John Moignard, granddaughter, Lee-Ann Christopher. Cremation has taken place under the care of J. A. Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Rd., Halifax (477-5601) where memorial service will be held in the chapel Thursday at 1 p.m. Burial to take place at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
