Obituary of Ron Zinck

Zinck, Ron: Halifax. We are deeply saddened to report the death of Ron Zinck, Halifax, who was born on July 21, 1969 in Sydney, Nova Scotia. He passed away suddenly at the age of 40. He is deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Ron is survived by his loving & dedicated wife of 14 years, Keila (nee Buchanan) Zinck; his mother, Karen (nee Blakeburn) Cartwright and step-father, Wallace Cartwright of Alder Point; his sisters, Bev Zinck Dukeshire of Truro, and Sue Zinck Chipman, Halifax; his loving nieces Vicki Adams and Rose Leger, Brianna Zinck Dukeshire and Rebecca Chipman, dear little friends Alanna & Frances Cantelon. He will be missed by his brothers-in-law, Steven Dukeshire and Tim Chipman, mother-in-law, Pauline & Floyd Thomson and sister-in-laws, Susan Buchanan and Jeannie Sullivan, Nancy Adams & brother-in-law George MacRae, of PEI. His family in Cape Breton, many aunts and uncles, cousins and maternal grandmother, Ethel Blakeburn, will also miss Ron. His father, David Zinck, his uncle Stanley Zinck and grandparents, Ainsley and Mary Zinck and Edgar Roy Blakeburn, predeceased him. Ron attended Sydney Academy High School, University of King’s College and received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2001 from Dalhousie University. A skilled and dedicated nurse, Ron was part of the nursing staff of the CDHA QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax. He had a passion for helping & teaching others and felt privileged to nurse. Baptized in the Anglican Communion, Ron had a deep love of God and His Creation. Ron’s many interests included hiking and the outdoors: he was a knowledgeable amateur geologist with a cherished collection and he also loved astronomy, this last interest helped by being born on the night of the first lunar landing. He was a dedicated D&D gamer & great DM, who was grounded in the real world as a proud member of the Gelatinous Dudes, at whose games he contributed to the weekly collection for Phoenix House and with them, held a successful first annual fundraising draw for Adsum House in December 2009. Arrangements are under the care of JA Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS (477.5601), where visitation will be held from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Thursday. Funeral will be held on Friday , March 26 at 10:00 am from St. George’s Round Church, 2222 Brunswick Street, Halifax with Reverend George Westhaver officiating. Interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances to the two organizations Ron was passionate about supporting, Adsum House and Phoenix House, both of Halifax, or the Arthritis Society of Canada.
