Obituary of Frederick "Bill" Morgan

MORGAN, Frederick William "Bill" - 93, Timberlea, N.S., passed away peacefully in the Queen Elizabeth II Heath Sciences Centre, Halifax, N.S., on April 13, 2010. Born in Talgarth in Breconshire, Wales, on August 9, 1916, Bill was the son of the late Ivor Rhys and the late Bertha (Godden) Morgan. The family emigrated to St. John's, Nfld., in 1920. Bill was educated at Bishop Field College, then enlisted into the Army in 1939, where he served during the Korean War and was released in December 1945 as Lieutenant. From 1945 to 1956, Bill was employed by the Nfld. Dept. of Health and Welfare, Family Allowance Div., and for 3 years was President of the Nfld. Div., Civil Service Federation of Canada. From 1949 to 1956, Bill had rejoined the Regular Force (Nfld. Regiment) as Captain. From 1956 to 1968, Bill had rejoined the militia as Captain and Quartermaster of Ordinance Battalion (Halifax Armories). In 1942, Bill married and in 1956 moved his family to Timberlea, N.S., where he was employed by Standard Paving Maritimes Ltd. until 1981 as a Purchasing Agent and Stock Controller. Bill was Vestry Clerk of St. Andrews Anglican Parish, Timberlea, N.S., for 15 years, and was an active member of the Parish choir for 30 years. His woodworking craftsmanship can be seen in the many items that he made for the Parish. Bill was active with the Cubs and Boy Scouts from 1956 to 1981, and was an ardent salmon fisher and member of many salmon associations in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. Bill is survived by his wife of 68 years Edith Margaret (Parsons); daughter Bertha Ruth Butler; son Frederick William (Peggy), both of Calgary, Alta.; son Trevor George (Sharon), Dartmouth, N.S.; brother E. David (Shelia) Morgan, Sttaffordshire, England; grandchildren Alan (Maria), Shannon (Amy), and Angela (Mike) Butler; Ashley (Tara) and Adrian Morgan; a great grandchild expected in June. Bill was predeceased by sisters Gwen Cavanaugh and Louise Morgan. A memorial service will occur on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Anglican Parish, 2553 St. Margaret’s Bay Road, Timberlea, N.S. Arrangements under the care of J.A.
