Obituary of Wilfred Eastman
Eastman, Wilfred Ruben: 69, Halifax, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, NS. Born in Howley, Newfoundland, he was a son of the late James and Ethel (March) Eastman. In his early career, Wilfred was employed with the Halifax Vocational School on Bell Road, then moving to Ontario where he was a bus driver for 9 years. Before retiring in 1996, Wilfred had been employed at Bedford Junior High School for 17 years as the chief custodian. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and he enjoyed these hobbies with his sons and grandsons. Wilfred loved to play bingo. Wilfred is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Rita (Brackett), his daughter, Mary (Lynn) Tipert (Hugh), Lewis Lake, NS, two sons, Danny (Lori), East Dalhousie, NS, and Harold (Sylvia), Hammonds Plains, NS, brothers, Walter “Bud” (Bernice), North Bay, ON, and Merlon (Donna), Lady Cove, NF, sister, Geraldine Padey (Melvin), Elliotts Cove, NF, a half-brother, Ben Eastman (Flossie), Porters Lake, NS, and a brother-in-law, Ashley Perry. “Pop” will forever be remembered and sadly missed by his grandchildren, Matthew (Amanda), April (David), Megan (Matthew), Tyler (Emily), Justin, Raylene, Wilfred, Colin, and Westley (J.W.), and his great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Amelia, and Kyle. He was predeceased by his parents, a son, Joe in 1998, and a sister, Georgina Perry. The family wishes to extend their heart-felt thanks to the VON, Red Cross HomeCare, as well as the doctors and nurses of 6.2 QEII, for all of the care and compassion shown to Wilfred. Special thanks to brother-in-law, Fred for all of his extra help during the difficult times and to special sister-in-law, Jackie, for her support, chowder and homemade jam.
Arrangements are under the care of JA Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS (477.5601), where a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at 11 AM from the funeral home chapel, with Rev.
