Obituary of Barrie Cleveland

Cleveland, Barrie Gerald - 67, Herring Cove, NS, passed away peacefully doing what he loved the most on Monday, May 24, 2010. Born in Halifax, NS, he was a son of Marjorie (Cook) and the late Gerald “Ace” Cleveland. Barrie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son of a very close-knit family. He had spent 30 dedicated years at Maritime Tel & Tel, retiring as Accounts Manager. He was the past District Commissioner of Boy Scouts of Canada and was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, where he was currently active in the Parish Council and Parish Hall Committee. Barrie was one of the first volunteers with the Herring Cove Fire Department. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, and was a handy-man to all. He will be lovingly remembered and never forgotten by his wife of 44 years, Linda (Power), his mother, Marjorie, daughters, Heather (Rick) and Judy (Paul), grandchildren, Stephanie, Nicole, Daniel, Ashton, and Michael, all of Herring Cove, a brother, Darrell (Sheila), Herring Cove, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Doug and Florence “Flossie” Power, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. Arrangements are under the care of J.A. Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS (477.5601), where visitation will be held on Thursday from 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Herring Cove, NS, on Friday, May 28, 2010 at 10 AM, with Fr. Rob Arsenault as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Herring Cove, followed by a reception in St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the charity of one’s choice.
