Obituary of Thomas Robert "Tom" "Bob" Spearns

76, Halifax passed away June 19,2010 in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Thomas and Ida (Johnson) Spearns. Tom retired after 35 years service on the Halifax Police Force. He was also an active member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, the Knights Of Columbus and the Quarter Notes. He was a volunteer with The Mission of Seafarers and Meals On Wheels. He had also worked as a tour guide. Tom loves to sing, loved people, enjoyed computers and todays technology. His children affectionately called him “Inspector Gadget”Tom is survived by former wife Joan, Chester; sons Stephen (Barbara), Portuguese Cove, Thomas “Drew” (Donna), Halifax; daughter Sylvia Swinimer (Kirk) Chester; sisters Bertha Grandy (Paul), London Ont., Theresa Spearns, Herring Cove, Genevieve “Genny” Power, Halifax; grandchildren Clayton Spearns, Shauna Swinimer, Courtney Swinimer, Stephanie Spearns, Sean Spearns and Colleen Spearns; great grandson Jayen; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother John Spearns; sisters Mary Sullivan and Reta Christian. Arrangements are under the care of J.A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. (477-5601) 149 Herring Cove Rd. where visitation will be held Wednesday 5-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday 10:a.m. from St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, St. Michael’s Ave. Father Jamie Utronkie officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. There will be a private family interment. Donation in memory may be sent to National Association of Retired Police Officers, Knights Of Columbus, St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church or the Canadian Diabetes Association. Tom’s family would also wish to extend a special thank thanks to the nurses and doctors in the I.C.U. Unit of the Halifax Infirmary QEII. Love, Peace and Prayers Eternally
