When the Second World War began, Percy lied about his age and joined the Merchant Seaman, returning to Halifax when the war ended. He enjoyed being a member of the Merchant Seamen, Masonic Lodge, and Lions Club of Spryfield. When his children were young, he was an active member of Brunswick Street United Church. Percy worked at Maritime Telegraph and Telephone for over 30 years. Percy worked hard and had a great love for life. After moving to Spryfield, Percy became an active member of the Lions Club and held the office of King Lion. He was a member of the Masonic Order and the Scottish Rite, where he held offices. He was a founding member of the Merchant Seamen Association and served on the executive. Percy was part of the successful struggle to achieve Veterans’ rights for Merchant Seamen. After retiring from the telephone company, he became a member of the Telephone Pioneers and enjoyed volunteering in projects. Percy and Kay were both diagnosed with dementia in 2002. When Kay became to ill to stay at home she was accepted at Northwood and Percy secured an apartment with Northwood’s assisted living complex. Percy enjoyed Northwood and enjoyed living in the north end of Halifax. Percy moved to Veteran’s Memorial in 2007. The family is most grateful of the staff of West Veteran’s Memorial Hospital for the generous loving care they gave our father for three years. Your kindness towards our father throughout the past two years has always been consistent and , in particular, that same kindness over the past few days was filled with compassion. Percy was appreciative of the care he received by hospital staff when he had a stroke. Because of that care, he decided to donate his body to the Department of Anotomy and Neurobiology, Dalhousie University. A memorial service will be held in J.A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. 149 Herring Cove Rd., Spryfield, June 30 at 2 p.m., Linda Yates officiating. Family and friends are invited to a reception following the service. Donations in memory of Kay and Percy Lambert may be made to Brunswick Street Mission, 2107 Brunswick Street, Halifax, NS. B3K 2Y4. Family flowers only.
