Obituary of Thomas J. "Tom" Landry

56 - Herring Cove, passed away at home on Tuesday, August 10, 2010. Born in Halifax on March 12, 1954, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Skerry). Tommy cared deeply for his enormous circle of friends which grew every time he met someone new. He was a friend to all and never hesitated to help anyone in need and never once looked for notoriety for his actions. Every weekend was spent with friends who loved him. He made everyone feel like family, but it was his deep sense of pride and love for his wife and children that were his foundation and everything else grew from that. His snappy sense of humor and lightening-quick wit, made every conversation with him a pleasure. He always had an impish twinkle in his eye and would light up a room when he entered. He could put a unique twist on the English language and his “Tommyisms” are legendary. He particularly enjoyed his “Christmassy Syruppy” which always came with a chuckle and a grin. Tommy had an uncanny ear for music and looked forward to playing his guitar and banjo at his weekly “jam sessions” . His motorcycles were also a great delight to him and he enjoyed trips with his friends, despite the weather. He could barely wait for fishing season to start when he and his friends would disappear for up to a week and return, usually without fish. Hockey, golf, camping, four wheeling in Newfoundland, the list of his exploits is endless. He was a loving, caring, simply amazing individual who positively affected the lives of many and he will be remembered forever as everyone’s best friend. He will be loved bunches and never forgotten by his wife, Cheryl (Brunelle); children, Dean (Cheryl), Ontario; Christine, England; brothers, Joe, Halifax; John, Sydney; Robert, Alberta; uncles Frank (Mary “Chris”), Goodwood; and Joseph O. (Marie), Halifax; many cousins, nephews and nieces. Tom was predeceased by uncles, Fred and James; aunts, Ellen and Barb. Cremation has taken place under the care of J.A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. 149 Herring Cove Rd. (477-5601) where visitation will be held today from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 21 at 1 p.m. from St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Spryfield, with a reception to follow in the church hall.
