Obituary of Barbara Rose Robertson

 Age 93 of Halifax passed away March 18, 2019 at Melville Lodge.  She was a daughter of the late Frank and Ethel (Adam) Robertson.  Barbara was born in Seattle but received her education on Shelburne, Nova Scotia, and is a graduate of Acadia and Columbia universities.  She is retired from the staff of the Nova Scotia Museum, where she was curator of exhibits and editor of The Occasional.  Photography is one of her enduring pursuits, and her photographs have been published in several books and periodicals.  She has written a weekly column and articles on aspects of Nova Scotia heritage for the Halifax Chronicle-Herald/Mail-Star, prepared Research Reports for the Nova Scotia Museum of Industry, and written book reviews for the Journal of Forest History.  She is a graduate of the Toronto Publishing Workshop 1990.  Barbara was awarded a Canada Council Grant from Explorations Program in 1973, was a Prize winner in the 1985 WFNS Atlantic Writing Competition, and was nominated for the Canadian Historical Associations Certificate of Merit Award in Regional History in 1988.  She and a friend where currently writing a history of local merchants.  Also, Barbara took her BSC at Acadia University.  She was had an internship in Dietetics in New York City.  She worked as a Dietitian in Public Health at Camp Hill Veteran’s Memorial Building before her work at the Nova Scotia Museum.  She played drums orchestra in Bedford, NS until she was 89 years old.  She is survived by cousin, James McAlpine, Shelburne; long time friend, Mary Blackford, Halifax.  Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd.
