Obituary of Nancy Joan MacDonald
Age 83, Mill Cove, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2020 in Palliative Care at the Victoria General, QEII Hospital, Halifax.
Born in Halifax (a proud Northender), she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Edna (LaPierre) Fry. Nancy was educated at “Old” St. Pat’s and received her BA. and B.Ed. from Mount St Vincent University, (Class of ’56) and an M.Ed. from the University of Toronto. Nancy was a compassionate and dedicated public school teacher for over thirty five years. Beginning in Halifax, Nancy taught in Europe and across Canada. Her last teaching assignment was with the Toronto Public School Board. Nancy preferred teaching students from impoverished backgrounds, always believing in them and helping them succeed. She served as a research assistant for Sister Frances Carmel as part of the Vatican Council II in Rome in 1963. Always a great hostess, Nancy was well known for her culinary skills and superb hospitality, always welcoming to family and friends to wonderful meals and conversation.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Dan MacDonald; uncle, George Carless, Kentville; cousins, Jamie Carless, Toronto; Gloria Fry, Mount Uniacke; Marilyn Stockall, Burlington, Ontario; Elaine Bryant, Halifax; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Terrence Fry; and many aunts and uncles from the Fry and LaPierre families, especially her dearly loved Aunt Grace (LaPierre) Carless and Uncle Jimmie Fry, killed in action in World War II and buried in Holland.
