To Webster and Colin,
I am so sorry to read of your Mom’s passing. She and our Dad had a special friendship and enjoyed many adventures. Dad thought so much of Eileen, you boys and your Clayton family. He always had many stories to share. I know he enjoyed playing crib with your Mom and watching the lively hockey games with you all!
I want to thank you both for welcoming our Dad into your lives. Your kindness has meant the world to us. Sending you and your family my most sincere condolences. Take care of yourselves.

Web and Colin:
Your Mom had a very special way of making a person feel welcome. She was so easy to talk with like I’d know her a lifetime. And her banana bread recipe…a favourite in our house!
Thank you for sharing your Mom. An honour to know her.
Love
Jenn

Dear Colin and Webster and the whole Clayton family,
I am sending my sincerest condolences on the passing of your mom. When I read Jan’s tribute to Eileen’s early days, I can feel her energy and strong spirit for living large and well. What a friend and sister and mother she made! Your care for her speaks volumes of your character and I feel Eileen modelled such behavior all of her life.
Keep your good memories of Eileen in your hearts and minds forever.
Many hugs for you all in this loving family,
Donna Hutchinson

I am so sorry that due to Covid and distance I am not with you all today.
I thought I would share a few memories I have about Eileen. We were close when we were kids growing up on Fenwood Road in Armdale; Eileen was a great role model for me; she was athletic and excelled in swimming, skating and badminton. Along with Bev and Louise Parks we spent many days going to Haley’s Pond, the Dingle, Williams Lake and just ‘hanging out!!!
Our father always had a sail boat and we spent a lot of time on the Arm.Eileen was an excellent student, she did not have to work as hard as I did to get high marks.
Not an angel she definitely had a temper and knew her own mind!!!! We eventually moved in to the City and attended QEH; Eileen attended Dal but did not finish her studies.
We had summer jobs at Simpson’s working for buyers and departments recording sales and returns..does that sound like fun....actually the set up reminds me of the days of Dickens!!!! Yet we enjoyed it and were able to buy new clothes etc and that was fun. As teens we spent so many Sundays at Queensland Beach and Hubbard’s....and we had discovered boys too! So many
happy times.
We attended St. James Anglican Church regularly and Eileen taught Sunday School as a teen.
Eileen worked with the Police Deoartment and with the City of Halifax.
Eileen was a wonderful mother and spent many hours in hockey rinks, ball parks and watching school activities.
Eileen played cards and I mean SHE Played Cards to win. Crib was a biggie and she and friend Clarence had their share of success. She loved to dance too!!!
Although I was living in Saskatchewan we went “home” every summer” which often included holidays to PEI with Eileen and her boys, Jim and Roseen and their three, Jerry and Sue and their boys, Estella, Steven and also Mom and Dad.
Years pass and children grow up.... but the memories last forever. One of my more recent memories include Eileen and Estella’s trip to Battleford where Ken and I were living. The three girls set off in Dad’s Pontiac for the mountains and did we enjoy ourselves. A first for Eileen flying and then Vegervilke, Edmonton, Jasper, Banff and Calgary, Battleford and home from Saskatoon.....Eileen liked the mountains so as we Ibid them goodbye I could not resist a side trip to Nakiska and the site of the Calgary Olympics. Eileen said she could live on the Praries but not IN the mountains.
I have gone on a bit too long so please share this as you wish.
Eileen loved her two sons passionately and they returned her love in full measure. The love and care they gave to her over the past few years with the support and empathy of Home Care was remarkable...”what you sow you will reap!”
Thank you both so much for caring for her!
Love, Aunt Jan
