Obituary of Eileen Laura (Clayton) Campbell

Eileen Laura (Clayton) Campbell

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Eileen Campbell at home on Nov 19, 2021. Born in Halifax she was the daughter of the Late Clyde and Mary Clayton.

Eileen loved her family more than anything and family gatherings were always so special to her. She was a hockey lover and was an athlete in her younger years; playing basketball and in her teenage years becoming Doubles badminton champion for the province of Nova Scotia. She was even a “Chebucto Hockey Mom” when we played.

When mom was 10 she took of on a motorized mini-bike and took off down the driveway. Grand-dad was in pursuit, hanging out of the passenger’s window in an attempt to grab her; instead mom bailed off the bike. From the fall she was bandaged from her waist up to and around her arms; with the bandages changed often to apply ointments. She was tough, even then!

Along with loving her two sons Eileen also loved her animals; with many cats over the years including Prince, Huey, and Leon as well as her beloved dog Sultan.

Eileen worked for the HRM for 20 years before her retirement. Since then she did not slow down, but enjoyed gardening, going for drives with Clarence and spending time at the Herring Cove Look-off.

Mom had dementia, and the family would like to thank the in-home nurses from Closing the Gap for all of their dedicated work over the last several years.

Eileen is survived by sons Ian Webster and Colin Andrew Campbell. Siblings, Jan (Ken) Prince Albert Saskatchewan, Jim (Roseen) Dartmouth, Jerry (Brenda) St. John New Brunswick, Estelle and special friend Lois Hartnett, Steven (Kim) Riverview New Brunswick and special friend Lois Hartnett as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Eileen was predeceased by her parents, Clyde and Mary Clayton, siblings, Barbara, Clyde, Ray and John as well as special friend Clarence Cottreau.

A service will take place on Wednesday November 24th at 2pm at J. Albert Walker Funeral Home. In accordance with all Public Health directives, proof of double vaccination and government ID will be required prior to entry. Masks must be worn at all times.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax.
