With great sadness I had to miss Mikes service. I desperately wanted to be there to show how much Mike was loved.
I had the pleasure of living beside Mike on Joe Howe for 7 years. Over that time we became quite close sharing stories outside while we smoked cigarettes. After 3 years of being Mikes neighbour I decided to pursue a career path at MCHA so I could have the pleasure of working with Mike. I worked with Mike for another 8 years. Frequently taking shifts at his home just to catch up and see how he was doing. There was never a day that Mike didn't put a smile on my face. Mike had an amazing sense of humour, I don't think a day went by that he wasn't cracking jokes. Mike had the most kind heart, and would frequently ask my friends how they were doing and ask about any ailments he remembered from their prior visit. Mike was very protective of me, and my residence when we lived beside each other. He had nicknames for all of my friends and recognized all their vehicles. Mike would let me know if someone came to my door (which was directly across from the designated smoking area). He would tell me their car and describe their features. If he knew the friend he would let me know "Muscle man came to visit you while you were at work today". I was and will forever be so grateful that I had the pleasure of knowing Mike both personally and professionally. Mike made such a huge impact on me that I will be getting a tattoo in his honour in the coming weeks. Mike is someone I will never forget and I wanted his family to know just how special he truly was. My deepest condolences to the family. He will be greatly missed.

I was one of the lucky ones who had the opportunity to work with Mike at MCHA.
On the very first day that I met Michael, before I even had a chance to introduce myself, he made me laugh by telling a joke.
When I say Mike was one of a kind, he truly is one of a kind. He always put a smile on my face and he always cared so much about everyone.
Mike was always great at giving compliments to people and even complete strangers.
Mike always did the best impersonations of different actors, he was always making me laugh!
*Michael, I want to thank you for teaching me to just live in the moment and enjoy all the little things.
I had a cheeseburger for you while listening to your favorite radio station (89.9 the wave)
I’ll miss ya buddy!

Gary, Frank, Cathy & families,
We are so saddened to hear of Mickey’s passing. We sat here reminiscing. Brian has so many memories of Mick; more than I do as I met Mick only when I began to date Brian. But oh, I remember that laughter and twinkle in his eyes. Oh, how he loved to joke and carry on. Here are some of Brian’s memories:
Mickey loved cars and loved racing. Remembering his old Ford Falcon with a 289 3 speed with a pair of vice grips for a shifter.
We used to put 4x4 blocks of wood under the springs to keep the tires from rubbing on the fenders.. .. and away he would go, racing with the guys down Connaught Avenue and they could never beat him…. He was like the wind ! … Always with a huge smile on his face.
Also, when we were very young boys in the Pubs, after supper we used to go running and jumping over fences and Mickey always wanted to join us and one day he got a brand new pair of sneakers ….. He couldn’t keep up, so we all slowed down to see what was going on and he said “ You guys are going too fast. My new tires are too small for my rims and they’re pinching my tubes 1”
We couldn’t run anymore, we were laughing so hard.
We love you Mickey….. we know your tires are spinning wherever you may be….
We also know that your Mom and Dad were waiting for you to arrive… in the love and warmth of their arms.
We will ‘always’ remember and talk about you….
With much love and deep sympathy to you all,
Judy & Brian McCarthy - Maplewood, NS

Healing thoughts and condolences to Frank, Gary and Cathe on the loss of your brother, Mike (Mickey). ... My memories of Mickey since his childhood are those of a free spirit with dancing eyes and who loved to laugh. He is now in the welcoming arms of his mom and dad. I hope there is a Mustang in Heaven with your name on it my wonderful nephew. ~ Aunt Joyce

I was fortunate enough to work with Mike at MCHA for twelve years. I'll never forget his wonderful smile and his sense of humour (when he had to wear a white glove on one of his hands for a few weeks, he would ask, "Do I look like Michael Jackson?") Even though Mike had to be tenacious in life, he never lost his sense of caring for others. On cold days he always made sure I had mittens and a hat to wear when I had to go outside. Because Mike took nothing for granted, he appreciated what life brought him, whether it was a cup of coffee, an unexpected trip to A&W for a burger, or a one-pound Reese's peanut butter cup. I will miss Mike deeply, as will my husband, Kris, who Mike got to know over the years.

I was blessed enough to spend time with Mike at MCHA. He made coming to work a pleasure. We spoke and realized our fathers had a lot in common with their lives. He always greeted me at the door with a smile just to say hello as i got to work. His kind nature was experienced by everyone he spoke with. He will be missed greatly and I truly feel i will carry his memory for my lifetime.

“In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” ― John: 14
My deepest condolences to Cathy, Gary, and Frank. Mickey is at peace now with your Mum and Dad in the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father who washes away all sins and wipes away all tears. RIP Mickey. Your Cousin Patrick

We are so very sorry for the loss of Mickey. Living in Ontario, we did not know our first cousin as well as we would have liked. What we did know is that he was loved, he was passionate, and he was energetic. Our hearts go out to all those that Mickey touched, especially his siblings Catherine, Frank and Gary. Our sympathies are with you. May he Rest In Peace.

My big brother Mike was simply wonderful. As the youngest and only girl in our family of four children he always had my back. I remember Mike as being the most outgoing person. He always had a strong passion for cars and could fix almost anything you could throw his way. Mike had many friends in the neighbourhood and was always on the go. When he got older it seemed he always came home with some kind of vehicle that called for his love and attention to get it to work. From an old motorized go-cart to any old car he put his heart into it. Even at a young age Mike was always employed. He held many different jobs and loved them all. He was loved by our family and will truly be missed. Love you Mickey, your little sis, Cathe
