Kim and family, Heather & family, Wayne and family, Paul and Joan. My deepest condolences on the loss of Micheal. I didn’t know Micheal in his adult life, but remember the little guy up the street on Redwood Avenue, always practicing hockey in the yard and both Paul and Joan running off to hockey practice and games. Losing a special person so young is very hard, but it sounds like he will leave an impact and memories on the hockey community in Halifax.
My thoughts are with you in this difficult time.

Our deepest condolences to the Ritcey family. I had the pleasure of coaching with Mike in 2011 for the Chebucto Peewee A team. We had a great year and went on to win HNS Provincials that year. Mike always had a kind hearted way with the kids. Always wanting to teach them the right way. One of my best memories is when Mike gave me some money to buy his favorite chewing tobacco when I travelled to Boston to see a Red Sox game. I just remember the biggest smile on his face when I returned with his gift. He loved that tobacco. Just some of the many great memories I will always have of him.
Sincerely, Greg, Kyle & LeeAnn Stymest.

It was tragic news to hear of Mike's passing. A good man gone for too soon. Mike was a talented multi-sport athlete, a quietly fierce competitor, a popular team-mate. I first met Mike way back in his teenage years when he worked as a summer student for us at Nova Scotia Hockey Association. It was easy to see right away that he had a great insight into the game and an unbridled love of hockey. It came as no surprise that he became an excellent Coach- he knew the game so well and had such a great way with people. In later years, I would often seek Mike out to get his opinions on players. To no surprise, he was usually bang on.
Mike had a big heart, a welcoming smile and a passionate take on his favourite sports or teams. He will be missed by many. Rest in peace my friend.

Sincere condolences to Kim, Justin, Cameron, Joan, Paul, Heather and Wayne. Michael was many things in a life ended far too soon. In his youth he was an elite athlete and then used this knowledge to coach and influence many young athletes after his playing career ended.
Mike assisted me with the Ilsley boys softball team for a number of years before taking over the role of head coach after my retirement. .He went on to coach the Ilsley boy's hockey team and did a great job in guiding the Judges to respectability and a force to be reckoned with.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention that Mike would often show up early in the main office for softball practice and it wasn't to talk strategy with myself but rather to spend time with Kim. I had the honour of serving as Master of Ceremonies at their wedding and watching their love and admiration grow as Justin and Cameron were new additions to the family.
Michael marched to his own drum and that made him unique. I admired Mike and will miss seeing him, as I often did in rinks around the metro area.
Rest in peace Mike!

My deepest sympathy on the loss of such an amazing person. Mike's love for his family and his care and guidance for the hundreds of young athletes that he coached and mentored will always be fond memories. From a young age, Mike was dedicated to having a positive impact on the lives of the young men and women from his community and beyond. I was always taken with the level of respect he had from everyone - a true compliment to the positive influence he had on so many people. He didn't choose to live his life quietly, but rather to give freely of his time and do everything he could to make a difference in the lives of so many. May you be comforted by many great memories from his most impactful life.

Where do I begin. Ritz was always there at any hockey game that I attended throughout the years I knew Mike. Weather it was Midget AAA , AUS Hockey , JR C , JR B , JR A ,
Mike was there . If you attended a hockey game at The Sprydome in Spryfield , Mike was there .. he can be seen above Kimmies Canteen ( his wife’s canteen ) on the platform
. I always walked up and said hello .. Mike was a legend and and always gave you the time of day. Many ball Parks during a softball game Mike was usually the umpire. Mike was a gentle giant . Every rink and ball Feild should have a plaque in his name to help recognize the name “ Michael “ Ritz “ Ritcey. Every rink and ball field will now have a empty space as Mike is no longer with the ball community and hockey community. It breaks my heart to know I now can’t look forward to seeing Mike as I make a trip to the rink or field . Mike ,
You will be missed as you had a impact on a very large amount of people. RIP “ Ritcey .
