Obituary of Shirley Anne Slauenwhite

Spryfield, passed at the age of 87 on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Melville Lodge. In mom’s younger years she was employed with Sears and then with the Province of Nova Scotia, working at Government House and the Communication Department at the Victoria General Hospital.  Mom was all about family, the grandchildren and great- grandchildren brought her great joy.  She loved to travel, especially her trips to Ottawa to visit her sister Joan.  She was a great cook, and so enjoyed the big family dinners.  An avid knitter, supplying family and friends with slippers, socks, mitts, toques and dishcloths, all made with skill and love.  

Survived by her daughters, Janet Lilly (Brian) and Judy Oakley, sons, Ben Slauenwhite (Jenny Gagnon), Joseph Slauenwhite (Sarah Dawson) and John Slauenwhite (Laura Andrews), grandchildren, Jennifer Lilly (Craig Messervey), Amy Lilly, Ashley Lilly (Justin Tanner), Michael Oakley (Ingrid), Sarah Oakley (Scott Carvery), Angela Slauenwhite (Jeff MacDonnell), and Laura Slauenwhite (Ian MacInnis), as well as seven great-grandchildren, with a new addition arriving in the spring.  She is also survived by sisters, Dorothy Frizzell and Marie Ozon, and a brother, James Edwards.  She was predeceased by a son, William in infancy, her parents, Sarah and George Edwards, a sister, Joan Shepheard, and a brother, Robert Edwards.  A sincere thank you to the many health care professionals for their compassionate care of our Mother.

Cremation has taken place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, where visitation will be held on Monday, December 19, 2022 from 4-8 PM.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Stella Maris Catholic Church (St. Michael’s), 6 St. Michael’s Avenue, Spryfield, NS on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 11AM, with a reception to follow in the church hall.   In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in memory of Shirley be sent to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, 5816 St. Margaret’s Bay Road, Head of St. Margaret’s Bay, NS B3Z2E4 (www.crohnsandcolitis.ca) or Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, 105- 238 Brownlow Avenue, Dartmouth, NS B3B2B4 (www.childrenswish.ca).
