Obituary of Michael Eugene Lavalette
LAVALETTE, Michael Eugene- Age 79 of Halifax, our family’s world was forever changed on September 12, too soon and quite unexpectedly. Born in Calcutta, United Kingdom of India emigrated to England when he was 8. Then to Canada in 1970. he was the son of the late Eugene and Patricia (Jackson) Lavalette. Michael was a man of small stature but a personality that was bigger than life and a Prince among Men!
It is hard to find words to describe this remarkable man, husband, father, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. He meant so much to so many people. Michael was a kind, loving, wise, faithful, educated, nonjudgmental, humble, a gentleman; very special, and a consummate teacher. He could teach you anything about life, cars, medicine, nature, science, cooking, etc. In fact, he was the smartest and most intelligent person you may have ever met. Never boastful but loved to tell you antidotes and stories about his interesting life and experiences. He was a cross between Forest Gump and the 100-year-old man who climbed out the window and disappeared. Michael Loved music, art, and pop culture. He was a gentle, quiet, kind, smart, learned, nonjudgmental, accepting voice as smooth as silk, quietly charismatic, and a calming presence. Family was number one to Michael, you just wanted to be in his presence. Michael had a way about him that would always make you think or suggest books to read or music to listen to. A thinker…
Michael had a beautiful life and had some amazing once-in-a-lifetime experiences; from famous concerts he was at, to once attending a party at Andy Warhol’s house, and Paul McCartney knocked him over. His career was up to any adventure - working in Africa, for Scotland Yard. He taught economics at university. Teaching and the experiences he went through made him expand his mind. Michael in later years was employed as a Manager of Operations at CMHC before retiring. Had two successful shows on CIOE 97.5 FM Community Radio and did many years of consulting work for the Native Council Wenjikwom Housing Commission.
Michael is survived by his loving beautiful wife, Margo Sims Lavalette; his children, Amy, Andy, and Ceilidh, Jennifer, and Joshua; two grandchildren, Link Michael, and Adora Jupiter; his sibling in-laws as well as all his Nieces and Nephews in Canada, America, and England. He was predeceased by his sister, Suzanne earlier this year.

I have learned so much from this beautiful man with his beautiful mind. I will miss his greeting of “Hello Sweetie” every time I saw him and his parting words of “I love you.” Michael, sweetie, we love you, we cherish you, and we will never forget what you taught us about ourselves and about life. Don’t fret, we will all look after Marg.
Until we meet again ….
