I’m sorry for your loss folks. I was a student at Halifax West and the obituary was consistent with my recollection of Ron (rather, Mr Fitzgerald to me). Take Care, Cheryl Kane

Sorry to hear of your dear father and brothers passing. Ron was a class act in every way. I had the good fortune of being a student at the West in the early seventies and later coached with Ron when we resurrected the hockey team in 1980. Thank you Ron for believing in me as a young teacher and supporting all students and staff in so many positive ways.

I was profoundly sad to learn that Ron had passed away. I was a member of the Halifax West High School staff with Ron for more than 25 years. He was well respected and loved for his gentle ways, his true caring for all kids, his marvellous personality and his great voice that rivalled the best of radio announcers. I loved Ron for all the times he played our home piano from dusk til dawn. Joe and Matt and the Fitzgerald family please accept my sincerest sympathy and believe that the Good Lord gave us memories so we may have roses in December. I know yours will be so. Rest easy my dear friend.

We got to know Ron through his partner Terry. And as expected, the common ground was music. We offer our heartfelt condolences to Terry and Ron's family with the hope that your wonderful memories of his many talents will sustain you in the days ahead. Mary Barker and Ron Gilkie

I’m sorry to hear about Ron. We had good memories going back many years- jogging in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery and running the 5 mile Moosehead run. We spent time discussing topics around education as we both worked in the field.
Ron’s band also helped the us at the Lions Club raise money by playing at roasts for Gloria McCluskey, Frank Cameron and John Buchanan.
I will miss him very much.

Deepest condolences to the Fitzgerald family. Ron was a mentor to me when I first entered the teaching profession. He saw and lived life the right way. Lost touch with Fitz over the years, last seeing him, at McD’s, where he looked like a million bucks, as always. Always fun, always with a quick wit and always quick to give his perspective. Sorry for not seeing you before your passing. May you rest in peace

To the extended Fitzgerald family - Having moved away from Halifax after graduating in 1961 with Ron and later from SMU, i unfortunately lost connection with Ron and unfortunately many other classmates also. However I remember his as a great good sport and a very well liked and respected member of our class year.
Please accept my condolences for your loss.
