Obituary of George D. Hartling

Hartling, George David: Spryfield, NS, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2017 at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 11, 1943 in Halifax, he was a son of the late Florence (Boutilier) and Eldon Hartling. George worked for the Halifax School Board for 42 years. He was a huge fan of baseball and hockey, especially when it was his grandsons playing. He was a loving husband, a wonderful father, a proud grandfather, a loyal brother, a kind uncle, a generous friend - a brave man. "Georgie" was loved by all who knew him and will be missed dearly. He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 47 years, Linda (Betts), daughters, Kim Ritcey (Mike), and Kelly, son, Guy (Beth), grandchildren, Justin, Cameron, Ben and Jack, a brother, Ernie (Eileen), sisters, Mary Strachan (Bill) and Jeanie, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Arthur, Carl, Guy, Clary, Phil and Gerry, and sisters, May, Stella, Marion, Susan, Fluffy, and June. The family wishes to express a thank you to the staff of 8A, VG Hospital, especially to Eric, for the care given to George. By request, cremation has taken place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, where visitation will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 11-1, with the funeral service to immediately follow in the chapel.
