Obituary of Heather Estelle Bland
BLAND, Heather Estelle, age 75, of Halifax.
It is with sadness we announce the passing of beloved wife and mother, Heather Estelle Bland, who died peacefully on January 15, 2025 with family at her side. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 1949, Heather was the only daughter of the late Errol and Charlotte (née Storay) Cruikshank of Drogheda, Ireland. Heather trained as a Registered Nurse at the Royal Victoria in Belfast, and immigrated to Halifax in 1974.
In French classes in those first years here, Heather met the love of her life and husband of 46 years, Geoff. Together they raised a family of two sons, Owen and Alan. Heather adored her family and the time they spent together camping and at their North Shore cottage.
Heather loved being a nurse, and gave care to countless others through her career in emergency and neurology nursing. Heather also had a love of singing and gardening, with years spent in choirs and barbershop quartets.
Heather was a true friend and excellent listener who would always be there for you with a long chat, a cuppa tea, and a longer Irish Goodbye. She was fiercely proud of her loving family and treasured being a mother and grandmother.
Heather leaves behind her husband, Geoffrey; sons, Owen Bland (Natalie Parks) of Halifax, Alan (Lisa) Bland of Three Mile Plains; and grandchildren, Morgan, Siobhan, and William.
Arrangements have been entrusted to J Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax. There will be a Celebration of Life at J. Albert Walker Funeral Home on Saturday February 1st from 2pm to 4pm.
The family extends a thank you to the nurses, physicians, and care teams on 4.1, 5.2, 3IMCU, 5A, and 3A for their excellent care and kindness through this challenging holiday season. Donations in Heather's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
